Genre Research: Comedy and Horror

Image
Hi everyone! Raymond here with another blog. I'm here to talk to you about the conventions of comedy and horror. In horror movies, they are meant to scare people. The movies typically depict antagonists to be murderers or super villains. Whereas In these movies there are typically not protagonists.  Most times they use Ambient sound and non-diegetic sound. dark lighting is frequently used to set an eerie mood. Horror movies are the scariest most films. Some however have exceptions to traditional character roles. Comedy is another family favorite. It is intended to make people laugh. There are different genres within comedy. They can be funny or scary comedies. It usually has high lighting and lots of ambient sounds. Comedies observe the deficiencies, foibles, and frustrations of life, providing merriment and a momentary escape from day-to-day life. There are usually no good vs evil themes. I hope this was informative and looking forward to the next one. Next time on the Raym...

Genre Research : Thrillers 12

Hola todos! I decided first to look up thrillers. Thrillers are great for family night and all around great movies. From research, I learned that not only are they usually involve a lot of excitement. They give people risk free thrills. The object of thriller is o invoke an emotion of chill and not understanding what is going to happen next. Common conventions include, dark lighting, ambient sounds, and all of this is used to create the feel. There is always both a protagonist and antagonist.  This is to complete the theme of good versus evil. It gives audiences someone to hate and someone to love. There also are the obligatory scenes that you  find in almost every single thriller film. Be it a crime scene investigation. It can also be in a grave yard. At the end of  the day the object of thriller is to excite the viewer. So the conventions must do that. I hope you had a fun time hearing about conventions. Please stay tuned as I do more research on other genres. Att...

My Pitch

Image
Here are the two pitches. "The struggles of Afro Latinos in the Western World." "The struggles of Afro Latinos in the Hispanic World" First, I would be interested in making both. I do not have the resources to pursue the second one. However, I can gather quite a lot of info for the first one. I chose these pitches as a way to both have fun and speak about issues I care about. I also chose the first one because I can also speak from personal experience being Afro- Latino . I can also speak to family members and friends about their experiences too. I also decided to go with a much narrower scope and just saying the Western World. This way I can be intentionally focused on certain countries within reach. I want to outline the experience from the following countries: Cuba. Puerto Rico, the D.R., and Mexico. In a sequence I will have them say a one line opening into experiences they have had being black and Latino. If it is simply them being profiled or being rejected f...

Starting the Final Task

Image
Hola! My name is Raymond Adderly and I am in 11th grade. I have decided to work alone. I have decided to work alone because the content of my film will come from a deep place of study. I want to highlight Afro-Latino achievement which might not be of interest to many people. This is because a lot of latinos within the white community can care less about afro latinos. Thus, this is why I am taking it upon myself to film a opening for this topic. I have said many times that it is not a monolith to be Afro- Latino and my film will do that in its opening. Also, since it is just me I believe my blogs will be pretty unique to this topic. Each blog will be meticulous in addressing not only the issues in the afro latino community but how I encounter them everyday. My blogs will also potentially  grow in length as I begin to address and talk about other issues outside of the instructional material. The  ultimate plan is to create this blog into a ranting platform. This is also go...

Some things to think about as you reflect: How did you choose the saying? How did you choose the format of the message? What did you learn? What could you do differently? Wow, it seems as if yesterday I started this project and now it has come to a close. I choose my song "La Vida es un Carnaval" because I thought the message was on time and I enjoy the music of Celia Cruz. Furthermore,  as I shared before, I felt it was an opportunity to give the world my culture. It is not very often that Afro- Latinos make the frontpage if it is not for baseball. Actually, most times me saying I am Cuban to most people seems like an anomaly. This music video for me served as a gentle reminder that it i not an anomaly. Outside of the personal message I wanted to send the next portion is the actual message of the song. La vida es un carnaval translates to life is a party.  The song talks about life's ups and downs but through it all life is really what you make it. I framed the...

MOVIE BLOG

Finally, the video is complete. I    would  like to thank my brothers for being willing participants this time. I did not have to force them or drag them. I would also like to my mom for her allowing me to      use her car for the filming. We really had a great time . At, the conclusion of the video I shared it with a few friends. They seemed to like the video a lot. Thus, I did the final project and submitted   it. A few updates, I was not able to do the pool scene because it was extremely cold. We had to change to same set different scenes. It was still very successful. I enjoyed this video in particular because I love salsa  music. I could not get more people to make the party look more full. However, I did my very best. Overall, this video is a testament to he effectiveness indivuidual work can have. Each time I work on one of these projects I continue to exapnd my knowledge. I also am an actor so not having to get yelled at by a d...

MV BLOG #3

Image
Howdy everyone and welcome back. It has been a very cold week here in South Florida. On the bright news  I finally finished my filming and editing. It went really well. The crisp air as very good for the enjoyment of the video. I will tell you this was so  hard to put together because of the restraints but I enjoyed it. I love salsa music but most importantly I love Celia Cruz. She is my favorite Salsa Singer of all time. I again, edited on  Imovie and used different techniques. First, I used a recorded sound and put it in the background of the video. I also added the Cuban flag to the background and added the title slide. It was loads of fun to edit again. I was really fascinated by the font that I used as it gave a very retro vibe. I really liked the 90's look as it the song was created in the 90s. Overall I can not wait for you all to see the final product. Until the next blog. I almost forgot i had a very successful trial this week and I was so happy to see my c...

Editing Blog

Image
Que Bola mi gent . I am so excited to be back with all of you.  I was able to film the first six scenes of the blog. I will reserve the weekend for some filming fun time. Now, to  the editing portion. So, I have began to edit just a little bit. I have added the the very big and elaborate title slide. Each time, I watch the video I just sense the excitement and party vibes from it. I feel that I can record the rest of it tomorrow but if not maybe Monday or Sunday evening I can finish. Going forward with editing though.I would like to have clean video with smoother transitions. However, I feel this video should have little to no transitions. I am going to paly around with different edits and see. I feel like testing different dits would not be a bad idea. Well, I hope too give an update next week sometime. I not before then. Also, it has been pretty cold I have no idea why.

Filming Blog for Music Video

Que bola Mi gente! I hope your turkey day and week was as restful as mine. I was cooking up a storm. There was so much food. From turkey to ham all the way to sweet potato pie it was a delicious feast. Now with all this cooking I did not have  chance to film. I will be doing so this week. Now I might have to go with my back up plan as out of the blue it has become extremely cold. I do not think my brothers can go into a pool. It wouldn't be wise at least. However, my sets are ready to go from the pool to the room. It is all ready and my brothers are ready to dance their very best. It is going too be a great time. I have also noticed the longer the video the harder it is to edit and film. There are going to be tonnes of takes and re plays. It is all worth it in the very end. I hope you are not still eating turkey and if you are do something creative with it. My aunt did and it was really good. Maybe I should share the recipe sometime. Until next time stay healthy, warm and saf...

Music Video Storyboard Blog

Image
Que bola mi gente and welcome back to another blog. I am so happy to be back with all of you after a very long break. Each time I go on break I get socked with really long hours for work and never really get the opportunity to blog. So, I am going to take you step by step for my storyboard. Number one, I am going to do an establishing shot at my pool. Next, the title shot comes over with name of song and artist. My brother and other actors will begin to get out of the pool and begin to hear the beat of the song. Then actors begin getting drinks to turn it into a part like scence. Only because the song translates to Life is a party. Everyone begins to have a drink and winds down. Then big transition into my room where there are strobe lights. Actors noe begin to dance with one another. We thin will pan the camera around the scene. Next we need to being out a picture of the Cuban Flag and Celia Cruz and this will pay homage to their her  death. Last scence will be one more titl...

Planning for My Music Video

Image
`Mi Gente Que Paso! Yes, I changed the greeting to something a bit warmer. I did that to meet the time we are in Thanksgiving. The air is crisp and the food id beginning  to arrive at my house. Also suddenly I am beginning to get a feeling of disgust with how much food I am going to eat. However, you didn't come to hear about all of that. You came to hear about the project. Well, my set is pretty undecided at this point. This is because I can not think of a set idea. I think I will most likely ending up using a pool side, the front of a car, or simply just a park. Everyone will wear some type of white shirt to give a very Miami Vice like vibe.  If the white shirt doesn't work out I plan on having all actors wear something flashy. This will really scream salsa. I also want the Cuban Flag to be front and center as the singer is  a Cuban woman. She too always wore very flashy clothes. This time I too plan on being in the video. So hopefully we have about 12 scenes. I p...

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
Que Vola Mi Gente! I am back with another blog. I hope your day was well and you spent a good time doing hard work. Now, this music video is going to be very hard to do. The dynamics are very different than those of our last video. Now I am sorry that I have not been making the due dates. I have been very busy trying to balance a work-study life.  No excuse. However, the basic step to salsa music videos isn't hard at all. Usually, it is pretty jovial people dancing in the background to a singer's voice. Singers rarely make appearances in their own videos but when they fo they try and dance too. Now outside of the one-two three-step. Salsa also called swing adapts its style from a variety of different musical styles. So by nature, you almost always see instruments like the trumpet, guitar, and various other tropical instruments in those videos. They are almost always in studios or on a beach somewhere really capturing that jovial aspect. The clothes are flashy and look like a ...

Introduction to Music Video Project!

Image
Que Vola Mi Gente!! It's Raymond and what a week it has been.  Well, I am tasked with another project its time to create a viral music video. Woot Woot!! I am not working with anyone. However, my popular demand I will bring back my brothers as the video actors. I hope they are more energetic this time around. I honestly in the last few days have been very intentional in spreading and connecting to my culture. So, the song I am choosing is "La Vida es un Carnaval" by Celia Cruz. I am working by myself because the people who offered to work with me either lived too far or got partners way too soon.  I mean sometimes that is just the way the pendulum swings. Whichever way it goes I am prepared to work with enthusiasm to get this done. I plan to have a salsa music video. On where people are dancing and having fun. I have not put much thought behind that part yet. However, I will put more thought into it going forward, In the meantime here is a picture of one of my favorite f...

Reflection Blog

Image
Mi Gente Que Ai!!! Yes, I did change up the salutation this time. Wow-what a project. From the first blog to the storyboard all the way until its conclusion. This is probably one of the most fun school projects I have ever done! Reflecting back on this project I had so much fun incorporating my culture with a school project. Being a black Cuban sometimes can be an anomaly. This project however gave me an opportunity to debunk the fact it's not an anomaly.  Again the actors were brothers Raynard and Raymelle. I filmed and directed. Also made the cafe!! As I reflect on the intellectual aspect of the project.  I learned to use a new platform Imovie which was pretty easy to use. I also by myself navigated and executed the filming and directing of a Commerical. I also learned to import, drag, and arrange slides. Most importantly, I learned to input font that can go in and go out. This project came with many blogs but I was able to get them all done.

Commercial Blog

https://youtu.be/4kDhPcxnhiQ Finally!!! I get to share it with you all. Mi Gente Que Vola. I am so happy to be back for another week. Throughout the commercial, I inputted parts of my culture. From the way, coffee is usually made to the music incorporated, to the cafe cups imported from Cuba. I thought it was a superb commercial. Some general points of clarification. I used my brothers Raynard Adderly and Raymelle Adderly in some scenes. I also used music from various artists. To be specific "Se te Nota" and " El Hombre de Tu Vida" by Joe Veras. Also, I used "Aceite Agua( Soy Una Guagua)" by Los Confidenciales. It was so much fun from filming to editing. The best part about it all was I got to drink one of my favorite beverages a cafecito. I think the best part about the commercial was filming with my brothers. We shared so many laughs. If you watch the commercial you will see exactly what I am talking about. The goofiness that was reflected in the commer...

Editing Blog

Mi Gente Que Vola!!! This part was pretty fun, to say the least. Playing around with the fonts to changing the way the scenes came in was truly a test of creativity. Well, first I used Imovie to edit. This platform was pretty easy to use. I selected the clips I wanted to use. I then put them in order of the scene. I did do 6 scenes. So the editing wasn't difficult. I first observed the platform way in which they ordered the commercial. I did not like it so I changed it around. I also decided to change up the transitions to a mix of wipe and slide for a variety. I then added a split font at the very end to reinforce the product I am advertising. I then watched over and over the edits until I was satisfied with the final product. Before downloading, I asked peers what they thought about the edit. They all said it was really good. I then had the confidence to download and submit.

FILMING BLOG

Que Vola mi Gente!!!! I am back and let me just tell you filming was a blast! I was successfully able to film in a few takes. I had to retake the entire shot when I forgot I had to film horizontally. However, I went step by step according to the storyboard. First, I ensured my sets were clean and clear. So, for the kitchen, I made sure that the oil was no longer on the stove and the counter was clear. I did this so the shot was clear and the audience could only focus on the cafetera and coffee. Next, I took the shot of the coffee being prepared. I also ensured to show the audience how the coffee is before it turns into liquid. I then attempted to do a jump shot from the preparation to the product. Then I showed the cafe being boiled from the water chamber and it was a beautiful shot. I then zoomed into the steaming milk and it went into the next scene. Here I utilized my brothers and they were not the best actors but they pretended to be sluggish the scene was accompanied by a rea...

Planning my storyboard for my Cafe Bustelo Commercial

Image
Scene 1: In this scene, I will open a new package of Cafe Bustelo and do all the necessary steps to make the coffee. Obviously I will jump around with the coffee because I only want to spend 5-7 minutes here. Next, I will also show me moving the coffee from the stove to the table.  Scene 2: As pictured below I will have a cup of coffee already poured for myself. My hope is that it will be nice and frothy as well as hot, steamy to depict the flavour of the coffee. I also want viewers to have a get-up and smell the coffee feel.  This is most important that I establish that fell as it will be a cornerstone of the advertisement.   Scene 3: At this point we want the coffee to be distributed to the entire family.  So in the scene everyone will be a bit sluggish. Then I will come and bring everyone a cup of coffee. Then they can smell the coffee and taste it.  Scene 4: Here the family has drunk their coffee. They are now bouncing all around the place. In a h...

Planning my Cafe Bustelo Commercial Blog

Image
How'd go my folks!  Probs: I will use a cafetera, stove, cafe cups and saucers. Also, I will utilize my table, spoons if possible, and my family to provide for the happy ascetic. Also a cafe bustelo package.  Costumes: In my commercial, everyone will be wearing normal clothes like people getting ready to go to school. There will also be a dad figure in a suit and tie on the way to work. We might also have persons holding coffee cups with saucers a part of the costumes. We might also change it to reflect people getting ready in the meeting so we might have people wearing robes and house slippers. There will also be people with their hair tied up in a towel.  Schedule:  10/23/2020: Do research and planning blog.  10/24-26/2020- Work on storyboarding!  10/27/2020-Submit Storyboarding Blog  10/28/2020- Submit filming blog  10/30/2020- Submit editing blog  11/3/2020- Submit 30 second commercial  11/6/2020- Complete reflection questions ...
